EXHAUST SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY EVOLUTION

            EXHAUST SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY EVOLUTION
Between 1990 and 2014

Since 1990, the emission control system technology was developed
permanently in Europe in reaction to European environmental directives
known as EURO directives. These directives are aimed at
control their emissions of polluting gases and noise all
vehicles sold in the European Community. these directives
also set maximum levels of emissions admitted to centers
MOT in periodic tests faced by all vehicles
conducted in Europe. The implementation of these directives involved
significant technological changes in vehicles with the passing years,
especially the development of more efficient engines and cleaner by
the use of emission control systems sophisticated. Because of
this, in the last two decades there has been a technical evolution
Significant emission control systems for cars
and commercial vehicles, which resulted in a technological advancement
significant to these systems.
Euro I (1992)
• two or three silencers
• The main functions are to maintain backpressure and to
reduce engine noise
Euro II (1996)
• Introduction converters

Euro III (2000)
• A greater reduction of CO by separation
values ??for nitrogen oxides (NOx) and hydrocarbons
unburned (HC)
• Reduction of solids
atmosphere
• The gases are measured immediately, not 40
seconds after starting the engine
• When the first Lambda probe
Euro IV (2005)
• Reduces more levels of CO, HC and unburned solid particles
• Introduce systems Eobdii
• Lambda probes yield monitoring systems
catalyst
• Second Lambda sensor for converter efficiency
catalytically
Euro V (2009)
• FPD (Diesel Particulate Filter) to reduce significantly
the solid particles in the exhaust gases
•! Most manufacturers already installed filters FPD before
2009. PSA / Peugeot was the first in 2002 with the Peugeot 607.
Euro VI (2014):
• The focus on reducing harmful nitrogen oxides (which
causes acid rain)
• Introduce SCR systems (Selective Catalytic Reduction)
called "RCS geared". The system converts molecules
Nitrogen oxide products are not dangerous for the environment:
Water (H2O) and nitrogen (N2). The reducing agent used is a
aqueous solution of urea (34% urea and 66% water).
• As an example, mention solution "AdBlue".
• Already it is currently being implemented by most manufacturers
vehicles, even if Euro VI will be available only after 2014.
This development also marked a significant increase in prices due
the difficulty of repairing such systems, which highlights the need for training
permanent technical quality to ensure proper maintenance of this
technology.
